Miley's older brother told People magazine that he and the Disney starlet, who released the album [article id="1616552"]Here We Go Again[/article] on Tuesday (July 21), have put an end to their romance because of age and distance.
"Demi is one of my good friends, and I definitely became very, very close with her in the past few months, and it's something I really wanted to make work.
"She is a lot younger than me," said 20-year-old Cyrus of Lovato, 16.
"When someone is that much younger, you're looking for different things in relationships. I mean, of course you get stuff like that all the time.
Maybe when she's older and we've both matured, we'll be looking for the same thing and it can work out." "I'm always on the other side of the world and so is she, so it just seemed like something that can't work out at this time." Cyrus and Lovato sparked rumors of a relationship in the spring, when they began tweeting back and forth.
"We gave it a shot, and that's all you can do," Cyrus said.
"Every time I hung out with that girl or talked on the phone with her, it was amazing.
She's someone I can totally relate to." Perhaps also making it difficult is the former couple's four-year age difference.
