About the Congress

The XXIX International Congress of Game Biologists IUGB-2009
World Trade Center, Moscow, 17-22 August, 2009

In August 2009 the XXIX International Congress of Game Biologists IUGB-2009, the largest forum of wildlife biologists’ world community, will take place in Moscow.

Since the middle of the 20th century the International Union of Game Biologists holds the IUGB Congresses every two years. Scientists and experts from different countries, game managers, representatives of government authorities and social associations of hunters, investors into preservation and sustainable use of wildlife resources gather to discuss some actual world problems on the subject of wildlife biology and wildlife management.

Russia is a unique place. Many natural habitats of unique fauna species are situated on its territory. Therefore recovery and preservation of rare animal species of the country become the main national and global purpose. Irrational and careless use of biological resources in one individual game-preserve or region leads to disappearance of rare wild animal species and reduction of biological variety on our planet.

Today the whole country and the state of game-preserves change significantly. And the IUGB experience can be important and useful for scientists and experts in the field of sustainable and innovational use of Russian wildlife resources.

In the frames of the XXIX IUGB Congress the productive work of 18 sections is planned as well as 4 plenary sessions, symposiums and special sessions on the theme: «Wildlife management is one of the most significant means for fauna preservation».

In the frames of symposiums and work groups several subjects will be discussed. Some of them are: a wolf and a man, mountain species of game-animals, wild animal introduction and reintroduction, the rearing in bondage. The work of sections will touch upon the next subjects: taxonomy and genetics of game-preserves, hoofed and predatory mammalians, rare species preservation, wildlife management and economic importance, physiology, bioenergetics and nourishing; behavior, adaptation and social systems of game-animals and etc.

Special topic «International cooperation on the subject of saiga preservation»

Particular attention will be paid to the special session «International cooperation on the subject of saiga preservation». The International Union for the conservation of Nature and Natural Resources put saiga in the International Redbook as a species that is under the threat of disappearance. It is necessary to develop and put into practice the whole complex of ecological, economical and judicial actions for effective species preservation. 

Youth forum «Rational Nature Management: Who Else But We?»

For the first time in the frames of congress young specialists, scientists and students will have the possibility to take part in plenary sessions and special sessions, in the work of sections, to meet famous scientists and experts, public men and representatives of government authorities, to establish contacts and to show one’s worth in youth forum «Rational Nature Management: Who Else But We?». Young people from different countries will be able to communicate, to impart their experience and success, to learn advantages and disadvantages of profession, to exchange their contacts and to establish strong relationship.

Many well-known art men: poets, writers, artists were fallen in love with Moscow. Moscow streets, buildings, apartments keep memory about Pushkin, Dostoevsky, Bulgakov.

Moscow museums and galleries keep monuments of art of different epochs and generations. Unique collections and complete set of works of Russian painters are presented in the State Tretyakov Art Gallery, the State Historical Museum, the Armory Museum, the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, and in the Moscow Museum of Modern Arts.

Moscow is an emerald city, attracting tired passers-by by verdure of its parks and country estates. The Moscow Boulevard Ring, the Tsaritsino, Kuskovo, Kolomenskoye estates, parks will hide in their shadow from scorching sun, chilling wind and snow.

Night Moscow is a completely different, mysterious and unknown city, attracting by lights of large avenues and noise of stylish bars and clubs.

Moscow is open to every its guest. And everyone will find here something close and native.

The city of Moscow will amaze, conquer and charm you in few days. But it will be always a mystery, mixture of numerous cultures, hiding charm, attracting and making you go here again.
